The director of the 2026 remake of "Ghost in the Shell" by Science Saru has explained why the new version differs from the iconic 1995 film. Director Touma Kimura, known as Mokochan, stated that the goal was not to emphasize the cold, mechanical exterior of the character Motoko, but to project her internal self and personality directly onto the screen. He noted that unlike the stoic Major of the 1995 film, the Science Saru version embraces the expressive and impetuous nature of the character as portrayed in the original manga.
