Bijou Phillips underwent a life-saving kidney transplant five months after she was hospitalized and placed on dialysis while waiting for a donor. The 46-year-old actress shared the news on Instagram, expressing gratitude to everyone who rushed to get checked to donate. "My wonderful brother [Aron Wilson] donated in the kidney exchange! He saved a life, and the life he saved had a special person donate for them," she wrote. "And then a few weeks later, the voucher program found me a perfect match!" Phillips praised her doctor's surgical skills, noting that he "only cut the facia" and didn't cut the muscles, so she didn't need much pain medication. "I feel at five days out like I did four months after my last surgery!" she added. In February, Phillips' rep revealed she was hospitalized at CORE Kidney at UCLA Health and receiving dialysis. The actress was born with underdeveloped kidneys and first received a kidney transplant from a friend in 2017, but that kidney had failed. Phillips' friends and relatives were not a match for her, and there were "no prospective donors" at that time. A few weeks later, Phillips revealed she was "hanging on by a thread" as the search for a kidney donor became more dire. The "Raising Hope" alum explained she was "fighting" to stay alive for her 12-year-old daughter, Fianna, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Danny Masterson. Phillips filed for divorce from Masterson in September 2023, weeks after he was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women.
