Christopher Atkins, who co-starred with Brooke Shields in the 1980 film "The Blue Lagoon," has alleged that director Randal Kleiser tried to force the two actors into a real-life romance to make their onscreen relationship more believable. Atkins, who was 18 at the time, claimed Kleiser placed a picture of Shields over his bunk on the ship where he lived during filming, hoping he would fall in love with her. Atkins described their relationship as "very innocent and sweet." Shields, who was 15 during filming, previously spoke about the pressure to date Atkins on her podcast in 2022, saying she did not react well to being forced into feeling anything. She also expressed discomfort with the nude scenes in the film. Atkins noted that he was "very protective" of Shields, who helped mentor him during the production.
