Brighton have signed Croatia defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham for a club record fee of £46 million on a five-year contract, with an option for a further year. The transfer fee could rise to £50 million with potential additional payments. The 19-year-old joined Tottenham in 2025 from Hajduk Split and was sent on loan to Hamburg, where he made 30 appearances and scored six goals in the Bundesliga last season, earning Rookie of the Season honours and a spot in the league's Team of the Year. Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler said the club has followed Vuskovic's career closely and believes he demonstrated he can play at a very high level last season. Vuskovic will replace Netherlands centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke, who has moved in the opposite direction to Spurs for £52 million. Born in Split, Vuskovic came through the academy at Hajduk, becoming the youngest player to feature in Croatia's top flight at age 16 and later becoming his club's youngest goalscorer. He has six senior caps and one goal for Croatia and made his World Cup debut against England in the group stages last month.
