Chelsea have completed the signing of Sporting winger Geovany Quenda for £40 million, with the 19-year-old signing an eight-year contract. Quenda becomes the second arrival under new manager Xabi Alonso, following the £42m signing of Atalanta full-back Marco Palestra. The Portugal under-21 international had agreed to join Chelsea back in March 2025 during Enzo Maresca's tenure. Quenda is expected to be part of the first-team squad and can play as a winger, attacking midfielder, or wing-back. He has already made 86 appearances for Sporting, including 16 in the Champions League, having broken into the first team under former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim. Chelsea have also held talks for Rayo Vallecano's Pep Chavarria, explored signing Crystal Palace's Maxence Lacroix, and failed in attempts to sign Granit Xhaka from Sunderland, while several players including Marc Cucurella and Tyrique George have left the club.
