Kirsten Vangsness has addressed the divided fan reaction to her character Garcia's secret support for serial killer Elias Voit in season 19 of "Criminal Minds." In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Vangsness explained that the storyline is meant to make viewers sit with a feeling of "discomfort," similar to real-life situations where someone has wronged you. She noted that Voit is already in jail and that Garcia's desire to prevent someone from getting the death penalty is "on brand" for her character. Vangsness also teased that she worked a lot in the current season and that the upcoming season 20 will tackle a subject matter affecting everyone right now, creating a new situation for Garcia that she doesn't usually get to experience.
