Eight NATO countries have announced plans to create a new satellite mega-constellation called the Hybrid Alliance Layered Operations in Space (HALO). The network will link military satellites from Denmark, Canada, Finland, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Turkey to enable high-speed communications, intelligence, and missile tracking. The initiative aims to overcome the limitations of single-nation satellite fleets. The announcement was made at the NATO Summit Defence Industry Forum in Ankara, where it was also revealed that Spain became the 19th member of the Allied Persistent Surveillance from Space (APSS) program. Additionally, Canada joined NATO's Starlift initiative, which explores ways to develop a network of launch capabilities for rapid asset deployment. The HALO project is still in its early stages, with the architecture and funding to be determined as it unfolds.
