Granger and Amber Smith’s Kids Grieved ‘Differently’ After Brother's Death

Granger Smith and his wife, Amber Smith, have spoken about how their family coped with the death of their 3-year-old son River, who drowned in their backyard in 2019. Appearing on the "Couple Things with Shawn and Andrew" podcast, Amber shared that each family member "grieved differently" after the tragedy, which she described as flipping their world upside down and leaving them unsure if their family or marriage would survive. She noted that she and her husband grieved very differently, as did their other children, London and Lincoln. Amber explained that her faith helped her navigate the grief, as she had recently started attending Bible studies and church before River's death. She recalled crying on the bathroom floor but knowing she had a husband and two other children who needed her, so she "ran to the Lord" and searched for light and hope. Granger had announced River's death on Instagram in June 2019, sharing that the family made the decision to donate his organs so other children could have a second chance at life.
