Argentina's football association (AFA) has indicated it may have been the target of a cyber attack after emails from its official accounts reportedly criticized refereeing in the national team's 3-2 World Cup win against Egypt. The reigning champions trailed 2-0 before a late comeback, and following the match, Egyptian FA asked FIFA to remove the French referee Francois Letexier, alleging bias. Argentine outlet La Calle reported that emails from AFA accounts to journalists stated "Argentina did not win" and cited "corrupt refereeing decisions," with AFA sources suggesting Egyptian-origin hackers were responsible. The AFA issued a statement acknowledging the detection of possible unauthorized emails and urged the public to dismiss any unusual messages. Egypt boss Hossam Hassan claimed his side was "treated unfairly" and suggested pressure from Argentina influenced the outcome. The win set up a quarter-final tie against Switzerland for Argentina.
