Hamptons luxury real estate big crashes boat in Sag Harbor, leaving pals with smashed bones

A prominent Hamptons real estate developer, Peter Mangiameli, has been charged with two felonies after allegedly crashing his speeding boat into a jetty in Sag Harbor over July 4 weekend, leaving passengers with serious injuries including a compound femur fracture and fractured ribs. According to police reports, Mangiameli was returning from Shelter Island with eight friends when his 35-foot cruiser hit the breakwater jetty at "unsafe speeds," throwing passengers "violently about" and leaving at least two unconscious. Police say Mangiameli allegedly fled the scene while his friends were being treated, but turned himself in Monday morning. He was arraigned Tuesday on charges including second-degree assault for the broken leg, a misdemeanor for the rib injuries, and a second felony for failing to report the accident. Mangiameli has retained attorney Edward Burke, who represented Justin Timberlake after his Sag Harbor DWI arrest. At his arraignment, when Burke described Mangiameli as a "pillar of the community" who owns a home on North Sea Road, the developer corrected him, saying "I own several homes."
