Henderson expected to have surgery on injured wrist

England midfielder Jordan Henderson is expected to have surgery on a wrist he injured while celebrating his side's last-16 win over Mexico, casting doubt over his participation in the remainder of the World Cup. The 36-year-old appeared to land awkwardly as he fell over advertising hoardings at the Azteca Stadium and left the pitch on a stretcher. England head coach Thomas Tuchel described the injury as "quite serious" and said the doctor informed him Henderson is in hospital. Henderson was accompanied to a hospital in Mexico City by a member of England's support staff after the game and did not travel back with the team to their Kansas City base. It is understood the Brentford midfielder is keen to stay with the squad for the remainder of their time in the United States.
