Nintendo has confirmed that its decision to halt sales of the Switch 1 console in Europe, starting mid-February 2027, will not affect sales in the rest of the world. The company told IGN that sales outside of regions where Nintendo of Europe conducts business will continue. The European discontinuation is linked to the EU's new Right to Repair rules, which require manufacturers to offer easy battery replacement for devices. Nintendo has committed to complying with the ruling by working on new designs for the Switch 2 and its accessories to allow battery replacement, but was not willing to do the same for the older Switch 1 console. The decision to stop selling the Switch 1 in Europe was announced via an update to a support page FAQ, leading to concerns that the console would be discontinued globally, which Nintendo has now clarified is not the case. The Switch 1 remains one of Nintendo's most successful consoles and will reach its 10-year anniversary just before its European availability ends.
