Photographer James Hickey, a former close friend of the late singer Lauren Bennett, has spoken about his struggle to process her death at age 36. Hickey, who lost touch with Bennett in the last decade, described her as humble, kind, and serious. Bennett's former G.R.L. bandmates announced her death on July 6, and a cause of death has not yet been revealed, though a coroner has confirmed an inquest was opened. Hickey recalled their friendship and creative partnership beginning in 2008 when Bennett responded to his Craigslist ad for photography lessons. He said she connected him with industry contacts like Interscope Records and LMFAO, and they worked together on projects. Hickey remembered Bennett as a sister figure who was supportive during his relationships, and he in turn supported her after a breakup with actor Kenny Wormald.
