Late NC State Coach Jack Roney Remembered as ‘One of Those Rare People’

Former NC State swimmer Braden Holloway remembered late coach Jack Roney as "one of those rare people who made everyone around him better" following Roney's sudden death at age 39 on July 5. Roney died in what a friend described as a "tragic accident." Holloway recalled Roney as a devoted husband to Maresa and father to their five young children, as well as a proud Wolfpack swimmer who served as a volunteer coach during a championship-winning season. Roney's sister, Amber Roney Moore, described him as "strong in every sense of the word" and a record-holding swimmer who was always supportive. Another sister, Katie Roney Corum, called him "an amazing man who loved his wife and kids more than anything." A GoFundMe campaign organized in Roney's honor has raised over $166,000 to support his wife and children as they navigate life without his guidance and support.
