Netflix is releasing a new adaptation of the "Little House on the Prairie" book series in July 2026, which has already been renewed for a second season ahead of its premiere. The new version stars Alice Halsey, Luke Bracey, Crosby Fitzgerald, and Skywalker Hughes, with additional cast members including Jocko Sims, Warren Christie, and Meegwun Fairbrother. This compares to the beloved 1970s NBC adaptation that starred Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert, and Melissa Sue Anderson. Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine has addressed fan concerns about the new adaptation, telling People that everyone making the show cares about the books and is working to bring it to life as authentically as possible. The original NBC series ran for nine seasons from 1974, with three movies released after the show wrapped up. The original show also launched the careers of Jason Bateman and reality star Kyle Richards.
