A preview of the game Orbitals describes it as an anime-styled co-op experience similar to It Takes Two. The game is developer Shapefarm's first original IP, and its creative director stated the goal was to make a "retro anime experience for two." The game's director previously worked as a level designer on Hazelight's A Way Out, It Takes Two, and Split Fiction.
