Revisiting the Biggest ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Offscreen Drama

Little House on the Prairie has been beloved by fans for decades, but the behind-the-scenes escapades were not always wholesome. Fans were thrilled to learn that Melissa Gilbert and Melissa Sue Anderson, who played sisters Laura and Mary Ingalls, had reunited in December 2025 after famously not getting along while filming the iconic series. Gilbert wrote via Instagram about the "reconnection with a sister" involving "long, healing talks" and "lots of laughter and a few tears." The pair weren't the only cast members who dealt with discord, as Karen Grassle and Michael Landon didn't always see eye to eye behind the scenes, with Grassle claiming her scenes started to get cut after she asked for a raise and that Landon would often mock her body on set. Grassle also admitted to struggling with alcoholism while filming, while Gilbert in her own memoir admitted to struggling with prescription drugs and alcohol before getting sober in 2004.
