Savannah Guthrie has missed two days of hosting the Today show without explanation, with Laura Jarrett filling in on July 9 and Sheinelle Jones filling in the day before. Guthrie had previously returned to the show in April after a two-month hiatus to focus on her family following the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. Nancy, 84, was reported missing in Arizona after being last seen on January 31, and the investigation has involved ransom letters and the FBI releasing photos of an unidentified subject outside her home. In an emotional interview before her return, Savannah spoke about the agony of her mother's unsolved abduction case, saying she wakes up every night imagining her mother's terror. News broke in June that one of the ransom letters made reference to Nancy's death. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has stated that the investigation is still active, noting that genealogy work may help identify persons of interest. Savannah has thanked the people of Tucson and law enforcement for their work, saying there is "not a moment that goes by that we aren't actively trying to find our mom."
