A scuba diving instructor in Argentina, Thiago Nahuel Pocovi, has been charged with manslaughter following the death of 23-year-old Sofia Devries, who disappeared while receiving scuba diving lessons off the coast of Argentina on February 16. Pocovi, 26, virtually participated in the hearing while in Buenos Aires. Prosecutors argued that he violated safety protocols and regulations governing professional diving instructors while leading a group of seven divers. Devries was in the process of advancing her scuba certification when she suffered a medical emergency as she ascended during the dive near the Punta Cuevas Historical Park. Her partner tried to help her reach the surface but was unsuccessful. Devries' body was recovered two days later, found about 65 feet below the water's surface near where she was last seen. The court ruled that the Public Prosecutor's Office will further investigate to determine if the case should go to trial.
