SpaceXAI has released its latest model, Grok 4.5, marking the company's first major release since going public. In a blog post, SpaceXAI characterized the model as a versatile workhorse capable of handling coding, office work, research, and writing, while boasting "twice greater token efficiency" than competing models. The company released benchmark metrics showing Grok's competitiveness, though just short of best-in-class performance. On his social media platform X, founder Elon Musk described Grok 4.5 as an "Opus-class model," comparing it favorably to Anthropic's high-end LLM. Musk stated that internal assessments show Grok 4.5 is "roughly comparable to Opus 4.7, but much faster." SpaceXAI priced the new model at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, significantly undercutting competitors like Opus 4.7 and OpenAI's offerings. The release comes just ahead of OpenAI's planned launch of GPT 5.6, which had previously been delayed by the Trump administration over security concerns.
