Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has hinted that an extra bank holiday could be declared if England wins the 2026 World Cup. The final match is scheduled for Sunday, July 19, and it is widely expected that Starmer will step down as prime minister the day after, to be replaced by Andy Burnham. Should England make the final, the prime minister would likely attend the game, which could briefly delay the handover of power. When asked about the possibility of an extra day off for people in England if the team wins, Sir Keir said: "On the question of a bank holiday, I think I don't want to jinx it, but ask me again if we get to the final." It is understood the extra bank holiday would be on Friday, July 24, following England's triumph. However, the team must first win a quarter-final against Norway, a semi-final, and the final itself.
