The Outer Worlds and Fallout New Vegas studio Obsidian is reportedly losing a quarter of its staff in Xbox layoffs

Obsidian Entertainment, the RPG studio behind The Outer Worlds and Fallout: New Vegas, is reportedly losing about a quarter of its staff due to the recent Xbox layoffs. According to a Kotaku report, between 60-70 roles are being cut across multiple disciplines, including artists, designers, writers, and programmers. Some of those impacted have been with the studio for over a decade, and the cuts include senior talent such as The Outer Worlds' art director. Work on Grounded 2 will continue, and Obsidian will deliver more The Outer Worlds 2 DLC, but nothing beyond that is certain. The studio is reportedly holding an all-hands meeting to clarify next steps with the remaining staff. Obsidian was acquired by Microsoft in 2018 and has since been one of its most active studios.
