In an interview with Deadline, Wyle described their relationship as "fraternal" and "brother and sister," denying any plans for a romantic storyline. Actor Patrick Ball previously shut down the concept as well, attributing fan speculation to audiences being "trained by most medical dramas for love affairs." Taylor Dearden, who plays Mel, also weighed in, saying she thinks Mel is "asexual" and hyper-professional, especially at work.
