Warframe's next major update blends Blade Runner, The Sopranos, and film noir in a whole new solar system, coming later this year

Digital Extremes has revealed Warframe's next major update, Warframe: Tau, at Tennocon Live, bringing players to a new solar system inspired by Blade Runner, The Sopranos, and film noir. The update is set to release later this year and features the ringed city of Fornax, which serves as the main setting. The demo follows a new detective Warframe named Brysko, voiced by Matthew Mercer, who uses a revolver, throwable trading cards, and has a dog sidekick. The narrative on Fornax tackles themes of addiction and exploitation, with Sentients abusing a drug-like substance called The Bloom and a casino featuring a card mini-game. Warframe creative director Rebecca Ford told Eurogamer that the team drew inspiration from "Boardwalk Empire, Blade Runner, and even a little Sopranos." Ford explained that addiction is a theme close to the developers' hearts, as many have seen firsthand what overcoming that struggle looks like. The update will launch with two regions, new mission types, and a new difficulty toggle for Tau.
