"Little House on the Prairie" debuted on NBC in September 1974 and ran for nine seasons, based on the book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The show followed the adventures of the Ingalls family in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, and launched the careers of several actors including Jason Bateman and Kyle Richards. Several original cast members have since passed away, including Michael Landon (Charles "Pa" Ingalls), who died of pancreatic cancer in 1991 at age 54, Richard Bull (Nels Olsen), who died in 2014, and Kevin Hagen (Dr. Hiram "Doc" Baker), who died in 2004. The surviving cast members still host events around the United States in honor of the show and its cultural impact. Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls from age 9 to 18, released a memoir about her time on the show in 2009 and reunited with Melissa Sue Anderson, who played sister Mary, in December 2025 after "healing talks." Karen Grassle, who played Caroline Ingalls, is also among the surviving cast members.
