A new report from Adura, the owner of the controversial Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea, claims the project will "not materially influence" global warming. The updated Environmental Impact Assessment states the field would account for less than 0.02% of annual global greenhouse gases during its lifetime. The assessment was required by the industry regulator after a judge ruled that ministerial consent for Jackdaw was unlawful, following a legal challenge from environmental groups. The 159-page submission argues that displacing imported liquified natural gas (LNG) from the United States with gas from Jackdaw would save the equivalent of four million tonnes of CO2, as imports produce around 20% more emissions. It also says the climate effects would be "minor" because the UK has a "well-regulated industry" aligned with the Paris Agreement. The previous revised EIA had stated the field could produce up to 35.8 million tonnes of CO2 emissions during its lifetime, around 90% of Scotland's total emissions.
