Andy Serkis has revealed that "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" will use artificial intelligence to digitally de-age some of its characters. As a prequel to the original trilogy, the film will feature the return of Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen as Frodo and Gandalf, more than 25 years after "The Fellowship of the Ring." Fans had wondered how the film would address the actors' aging, and Serkis confirmed in a Variety interview that digital rejuvenation will be used to make characters like Frodo and Gandalf appear younger.
