Sea drones strike Iranian port in combat first for US

The US military has used sea drones in combat for the first time, striking an Iranian naval base at Bandar Abbas. US Central Command utilized three Corsair unmanned surface vessels to hit a submarine and ship maintenance facility, marking the "first time American forces have employed sea drones in combat operations." The strikes came after President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire between the two nations over on July 7, though Iran agreed to continue negotiations. The Corsair, built by Saronic, is a 24-foot USV with a range of over 1,000 nautical miles and a payload capacity of 1,000 pounds. The US Navy has been testing these vessels for two years, and last month a Corsair rescued two soldiers after their Apache helicopter crashed near the Strait of Hormuz. The Navy's Unmanned Task Group 59.1, nicknamed "The Pioneers," has been focused on deploying unmanned systems for maritime security in the Middle East, and the latest mission has shifted from surveillance to incorporating strikes.
