Workers at MindsEye studio protesting controversial fan event this weekend after multiple rounds of layoffs

Workers at Build a Rocket Boy, the development studio behind MindsEye, will be picketing outside the studio's Edinburgh offices on Saturday, July 11, to protest a fan event the developer is hosting this weekend. The event is described as an "all-expenses-paid" affair where members of the game's fan community will be flown in to play an updated build of MindsEye. The workers are protesting the studio's decision to fund the event in the context of multiple rounds of layoffs. The studio has conducted several rounds of layoffs: over 100 employees shortly after MindsEye's release, another round in March after a major update, and then 170 more employees in May after shipping a new campaign mission. The IWGB Game Workers Union has also initiated legal action against the studio over allegations that "invasive surveillance software" was installed on worker devices, which the union alleges violates employee data protection and privacy. In October last year, 93 current and former employees signed a letter calling out studio leadership over "longstanding disrespect and mistreatment."
