The game casts players as an assassin working for the King of England, who is also Dracula, tasking them with mastering dark gifts to assassinate his enemies and secure his vampiric empire. From a gameplay perspective, Vampirium: 1997 plays out from an abstracted, top-down, tactical perspective showing blueprint layouts of buildings. Central to the game is the use and management of time, with a clock in the bottom corner of the screen and actions having associated time costs.
