Halo Studios reportedly cancels Halo multiplayer project Ekur, which had customisable Spartans and Elites and large player battles

Halo Studios has reportedly cancelled a multiplayer project called Ekur, according to Halo reporter Rebs Gaming and confirmed by Windows Central reporter Jez Corden. The project, which had playable Spartans and Elites with full character customization and large player battles, was prototyped by Certain Affinity. The cancellation appears to align with wide-ranging Xbox cuts announced last week, though Rebs Gaming cited "major development problems" with the Halo 1 remake "Halo: Campaign Evolved" as a possible reason. Project Ekur was reportedly green-lit in September 2023 after a previous Unreal-powered battle royale experiment called Tatanka didn't work out. The project explored an extraction shooter idea before settling on a "super big-team-battle idea" inspired by Halo 5 Warzone. With Ekur cancelled, questions remain about whether competitive multiplayer modes will accompany "Halo: Campaign Evolved," which is out in a couple of weeks and has received positive early impressions.
