Author Benedito Ruy Barbosa, who died on Tuesday, July 7 at age 95, leaves behind four children: Edmara Barbosa, Edilene Barbosa, Ruy Maurício Tranquilli Barbosa, and Marcelo Barbosa. Some of the heirs followed their father's path in teledramaturgy. Edmara, the eldest, works as a writer and author of telenovelas, while Edilene collaborated on successes like "Renascer" and "Pantanal." Ruy and Marcelo lead more discreet lives away from the spotlight. Benedito is also the grandfather of Bruno Luperi, an author and screenwriter responsible for the 2022 adaptation of "Pantanal," who is considered one of the main names in Globo's telenovelas and is seen as Benedito's successor. The author died from complications of chronic renal failure, according to a medical bulletin from HCor in São Paulo. Born on April 17, 1931, Benedito built one of the most solid careers in Brazilian teledramaturgy, with major successes including "Meu Pedacinho de Chão," "Terra Nostra," "O Rei do Gado," "Pantanal," and "Cabocla." He was married for 56 years to actress Marilene Leonor Barbosa, who died in 2014.
