Her parents announced her death on her Instagram page, stating that she suffered the cardiac arrest while at her Day Program and was rushed to the hospital, but did not survive despite doctors' efforts. They described her death as a "total shock and unexpected." Cristina starred on all four seasons of Born This Way, which aired from 2015 to 2019 and followed adults with Down syndrome. A&E expressed deep sadness over her passing, extending sympathies to her family. The show won multiple Emmy awards, including Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program in 2016, and received 17 total Emmy nominations during its run. Executive producer Jonathan Murray previously said the show changed how society views people with Down syndrome.
