The coach of former Sheffield United footballer Maddy Cusack, Jonathan Morgan, has given evidence at an inquest into her death, detailing their last conversation on 11 September 2023, just over a week before she was found unconscious at her family home in Derbyshire on 20 September 2023. Morgan told the inquest at Chesterfield Coroner's Court that during the phone call, Cusack discussed visiting her GP, receiving medication, and taking time off work. He stated that the information she provided seemed like "a positive step forward," though he would not use the word "reassured." The inquest previously heard that Cusack's family sent a written complaint to Sheffield United after her death, outlining issues allegedly stemming from her relationship with Morgan. The inquest also heard from Grace Riglar, who was in a relationship with Cusack, who said Cusack was "anxious" about Morgan joining the club due to her prior experience with him at Leicester City. Cusack's mother, Deborah, described Morgan as her daughter's "nemesis," alleging he made comments about her weight and relationship to be "in control." Morgan had previously told the Football Association that Cusack was "generally a liar." The court heard that in August 2023, Morgan expressed concerns that Cusack was "not well" and asked the club doctor to speak with her, but did not express concerns about self-harm or suicide. The inquest continues.
