The body of renowned Brazilian television author Benedito Ruy Barbosa will be held for public viewing on Tuesday, July 7, from 3 PM to 9 PM at the Funeral Home in central São Paulo. The veteran author passed away in the morning at age 95 due to complications from chronic renal failure, according to a statement from the Hospital do Coração (HCor) in São Paulo. The viewing will be open to the public between 3 PM and 4 PM. Born in São Paulo on April 17, 1931, Benedito built one of the most solid careers in Brazilian teledramaturgy, creating telenovelas set in rural environments that helped establish a new style of soap opera in the country. His greatest successes include "Meu Pedacinho de Chão" (1971 and 2014), "Terra Nostra" (1999), "O Rei do Gado" (1996), "Pantanal" (1990), and "Cabocla" (1979). He was married for 56 years to actress Marilene Leonor Barbosa, who died in 2014, and had four children: Edmara, Edilene, Ruy, and Marcelo.
