A director at Obsidian Entertainment has shared his thoughts about what he called an "extremely difficult week" at the studio, reacting to people "spouting off" about how the studio is not what it "used to be." Brandon Adler, who is currently directing an unannounced game at Obsidian, took to LinkedIn to discuss the difficulty of "say[ing] goodbye to some amazing developers" and "some of my best friends," particularly when people without inside knowledge "spread an enormous amount of misinformation." Adler wrote that it was difficult to see "cold take artists" talking about what Obsidian is or isn't, stating that most of the time they are "not just wrong, but spreading an enormous amount of misinformation." He stressed that "in most circumstances," the people in lead or director roles are the same people who worked on games like "The Outer Worlds," "Pillars of Eternity," and "New Vegas," emphasizing that "the DNA at Obsidian is the same as it always was." Adler, who has worked at Obsidian for 13 years, said he is "extremely proud of our history and I am also excited for who we have become." This comes after Microsoft's job cuts at Xbox, where Obsidian reportedly lost a quarter of its staff. Xbox has also decided to move Obsidian onto the Fallout franchise, which is said to be a new Fallout game, not a remaster. As a result, Obsidian has apparently had to cancel multiple projects, including a sequel to the 2025 RPG "Avowed."
