In a pre-recorded video, Goldberg explained that the active volcano decided to erupt, causing her to spend the day trying to return to the United States. She joked that while everyone has vacation stories, hers "takes the cake." Co-hosts Ana Navarro and Sara Haines were also absent due to weather in Florida and storm damage, respectively. This led producers to call in Joy Behar, who is normally not on Monday episodes, to join the broadcast. Behar joked that Goldberg was using "the old volcano excuse" and poked fun at the other absent co-hosts.
