The "Yellowstone" spinoff "6666" has been in development for five years, with creator Taylor Sheridan introducing the concept during season 4 when Jefferson White's character Jimmy left the Duttons' ranch. Sheridan bought the famous 6666 Ranch in Texas in 2021, saying its legacy was "vital" to the heritage of ranching. The show's future has been overshadowed by other prequels and "Yellowstone's" conclusion after Kevin Costner's departure. The most recent update came in 2022 when it was announced the show would air on Paramount Network instead of Paramount+. Since then, other Sheridan productions like "Landman" and "The Madison" have taken priority. Sheridan previously told Deadline he doesn't think of the shows as spinoffs but as "complete stories that have common roots." White has noted he wasn't sure whether his character Jimmy was set to stay at the Texas location.
