Woman Arrested After Allegedly Locking Man, 91, in His Car During Heat Wave

A woman in Kentucky, Nikki Reed Hoskins, was arrested after allegedly locking a 91-year-old man in his car during a heat wave. The Laurel County Sheriff's Office reported that Hoskins took the man's keys and left him in the inoperable vehicle on the side of the road because he refused to buy her cigarettes. The heat index was 101 degrees at the time. A passerby called 911 after spotting the elderly man in the car. When authorities went to Hoskins' property, she refused to come out, and police had to force entry. They found her hiding in a bedroom, and she struck a deputy before being taken into custody. Hoskins was charged with wanton endangerment, theft, assault on a police officer, and menacing, and was also served with outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court. It is unclear if she has entered a plea or retained legal counsel.
