Anthropic has started localizing Claude's pricing in India, its biggest market outside the US, as global AI companies increasingly tailor offerings for the world's most populous nation. Local rupee pricing has begun appearing for some users, with Claude Pro at ₹2,000 (about $21) a month when billed annually, Claude Max at ₹11,999 (around $125), and Team plans at ₹2,399 (about $25) per seat. However, Anthropic has yet to enable payments via India's widely used UPI system, unlike OpenAI which rolled out rupee pricing with UPI support in August. The move comes amid Anthropic's growing focus on India, which accounts for 5.8% of global Claude usage. The company opened a Bengaluru office in February, appointed former Microsoft India managing director Irina Ghose to lead its Indian business, and partnered with IT giants Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services. However, expansion faced a setback in June when Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models for non-US entities, though the Fable 5 restriction has since been lifted.
