The defense team for William Gusmão, brother of influencer Virginia Fonseca, has publicly responded to a new court decision convicting him of sexual harassment. The legal team stated they will appeal, citing previous opinions from the Public Ministry of Goiás (MPGO) that favored his acquittal. William had been acquitted in February 2025 but was convicted in a new trial for allegedly groping a woman who asked for a photo with him in April 2023. The defense's statement noted that "The Public Ministry, both in the first instance and on appeal, issued opinions favorable to the acquittal of William Gusmão, noting the flagrant absence of evidence and criminal materiality." They emphasized that the decision is not final and that appeals to higher courts will be utilized. The victim, Rauriceia Martins da Costa, also accused William and his former lawyer of pursuing, humiliating, and threatening her during the legal process.
