The 84-year-old Kentucky senator was reportedly found unconscious on June 14 after suffering a potential heart attack. Right-wing activist Laura Loomer has claimed that McConnell is brain dead, alleging she received the information from a 'high-level source close to the White House.' Multiple GOP Senate leaders, including John Thune and John Barrasso, have assured voters that they have spoken with McConnell at length in recent days and he is improving. CNN political analyst Scott Jennings also claimed to have spoken with McConnell for nearly 20 minutes about various topics. McConnell, who is on his seventh six-year term, announced in February 2025 that he will not run for an eighth term and will retire when his current term ends in January 2027.
