Simone Biles Says She Was Misidentified as 2 Other Black Athletes in 1 Day

1d · 9 views

Olympian Simone Biles shared on Instagram that she was misidentified as two other Black athletes multiple times in one day. In a post on Sunday, July 12, Biles wrote that she had been called retired gymnast Dominique Dawes twice and track and field sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson once before 6 a.m. She added three laughing emojis to the message. Biles has previously spoken about experiencing racism in her career, recalling a 2013 incident where a fellow gymnast made a comment about skin color after Biles won a world championship. In a 2020 interview, she said she feels "every Black athlete or colored athlete" has experienced racism, but encouraged them to keep going for those looking up to them. The post comes weeks after Biles revealed she experienced a health scare, which she described as "one of, if not the scariest experience of my life," but has not yet disclosed further details.
