Sony faces an anti-trust complaint in Mexico over ending PlayStation physical media

Sony is facing an anti-trust complaint in Mexico over its decision to end PlayStation disc manufacturing by January 2028. Federal Representatives Iraís Reyes and Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio are preparing to file a complaint with Mexico's National Antitrust Commission, arguing that the decision constitutes anti-competitive and anti-consumer behavior. The lawmakers argue that eliminating physical media would force PlayStation owners to purchase games exclusively through Sony's store, harming retailers like Liverpool, Sanborns, and GamePlanet, and eliminating the second-hand game market. They also cite Sony's recent removal of over 500 movies and TV shows from users' accounts without refunds as an example of the risks of full platform control. A petition asking Sony to reverse its decision has amassed nearly 310,000 signatures.
